Historic Sixties Scoop Class Action Case Granted Certification

Justice E. Belobaba of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, this morning, announced the certification of the class proceeding of 16,000 surviving children of Ontario’s “60’s Scoop”.

After 4 years of procedural wrangling since representative plaintiffs Chief Marcia Brown (Martel) and Robert Commanda commenced the claim, Justice Belobaba dismissed the federal Crown’s attack upon the claim as without a legal basis and indicated that written reasons would follow in September.

A detailed update will follow later.

  1. How would someone get involed with this cuz I know someone who was ripped away from his parents and adopted and then taken away from them because they abused him. White parents hit him in the head with an axe. Then left him in a car at the hospital.

  2. If you want to register as a claimant, you can fill out the Claimant intake form available on this website. Electronic registration is easy, but you can download and post the form to us if you prefer to do so.

  3. Any recent news on Judge Belobaba’s written reasons for dismissing the federal government’s attack on this claim? Or on what the federal government’s legal response to this claim was? Will that be shared with all of us on this website?
I also wanted to say a big ‘meegwetch’ to Robert Commanda and Marcia Brown for their unwaivering stance on this issue; you do not know how much this means to myself and my hubby. The two of us met at a CAS camp when we were 10 years old; we have now been together for 14 years but our hearts were one when we met at 10. We are both standing with you throughout this entire process – stay strong and raise your heads to the sun!! Sarah and Nelson

  4. You really make it seem really easy with your
presentation but I in finding this matter to be really something which I think I might never understand.
It seems too complicated and very wide for me. I am looking
forward for your subsequent post, I will try to get the cling of it!
